Alluring Illusion began as a response to an exhibition that allowed nude art of the female form but censored nude art of the male form.  I decided to explore censorship through the appropriation of Manet’s painting Olympia which was censored during Manet’s lifetime. Olympia now could be safely used as an advertisement or editorial in a fashion magazine.  In this work I consider who Olympia would have to be in contemporary culture to cause a similar reaction.  This then led to other appropriations with the same intent.

The silver prints are hand painted with oil paints and then varnished so they visually relate to the appropriated paintings.
